The Richmond PV Project

The Sun-Link™ system architecture is versatile in many respects:

  • It is structurally rigid while at the same time being light weight (under 3 lbs per square foot including modules) and having a small footprint on the roof for unimpeded roof drainage.

  • When ballasting or anchoring is desired, as in the case of a roof exposed to high wind loading, several options are available. If the roof surface is suitable, tilt brackets can be adhered to the roof using epoxy or other adhesive. If roof penetrations are permissible, tilt brackets can be fastened to the roof by lag screws. The positioning of tilt brackets along the spars can be adjusted to align them with roof beams for anchoring.

  • Other anchoring options are: 1) to secure the perimeter of the array to either the roof or to parapet walls; or 2) to place external ballast on/around tilt brackets.

  • The length and height of tilt brackets can be adapted to the project’s latitude to maximize energy production. Tilt bracket length/height can also be varied within a given system in order to optimize seasonal energy output.

  • Custom tilt brackets with increased base dimensions may be special-ordered to reduce the roof bearing load and/or to increase adhesion using epoxy or other adhesive.
The system architecture avoids the trade-offs associated with competing products:
  • Some systems sacrifice air circulation and roof access by gluing a sub-structure to the roof in order to avoid the need for roof penetrations. The Sun-Link™ system provides for all three: 1) air-circulation; 2) several ballasting/anchoring options; 3) easy roof access for maintenance.

  • Some systems are relatively inexpensive to purchase but expensive to install. Sun-Link™ has been carefully engineered to optimize the combination of component and installation cost.
